Collision and Structural Services in Fountain Valley, California

OCRV Center performs collision and structural repair on RVs, fifth wheels, camper vans, trailers and commercial trucks at a 35,000 square foot facility 24 miles from Fountain Valley. Work covers frame straightening, unibody correction, fiberglass cap replacement and full structural reassembly, billed directly to your insurance carrier.

What this work involves

Structural damage on a recreational vehicle behaves nothing like structural damage on a car. A motorhome carries its load through a ladder frame or a bolted chassis extension, and the coach body sitting on top of it is a separate structure that flexes independently. When a coach gets hit, the visible panel damage is usually the smallest part of the problem. What matters is whether the frame rails stayed square, whether the body mounts sheared, and whether the sidewall laminate separated from the framing behind it.

How we approach it

  • Frame rack rated to 40 feet, which covers every Class A coach and most fifth wheels. Most general collision shops top out around 22 feet.
  • Structural measurement is done before disassembly and again after pulling, and both readings go into the insurance file.
  • Coach body and chassis are treated as two separate structures, because they are.
  • Aluminum, fiberglass, steel and composite skins are each repaired with their own process rather than one generic body technique.

What sends people here

  • Doors or slide rooms that will not seal after an impact
  • Diagonal wrinkles in a sidewall, which indicate frame twist rather than panel damage
  • Gaps at the roof to sidewall seam that were not there before
  • A coach that tracks or dog-tracks down the freeway after a hit

Questions

Questions about collision and structural services

How do you tell structural damage from cosmetic damage on a motorhome?

We measure the frame before touching anything. If the diagonal measurements are out of square, or the body mounts show shear, it is structural regardless of how the exterior looks. A coach can have a lightly scuffed panel and a bent frame rail underneath, and it can also have a badly torn skin over a perfectly square frame.

Will my insurance carrier cover structural measurement?

Yes. Structural measurement is a documented, billable operation on every major carrier estimating system. We include the before and after readings in the file, which is also what protects you if a supplement is needed later.
