Fiberglass Restoration and Refinishing in Fountain Valley, California

Fiberglass restoration removes oxidation and restores gloss to chalky gelcoat through staged compounding, polishing and sealing. Cost runs $1,200 to $6,000 depending on coach length and how far the oxidation has progressed.

What this work involves

Coastal Orange County air is hard on gelcoat. Salt-laden marine layer plus year-round UV takes a coach from glossy to chalky faster than an inland climate does, and units stored uncovered near the coast show it within four or five years.

How we approach it

  • Staged cut and polish rather than a single aggressive pass that thins the gelcoat
  • Sealed after polishing so the result lasts more than one season
  • We measure remaining gelcoat thickness before cutting on older coaches

What sends people here

  • Chalky residue on your hand after touching the sidewall
  • Colour visibly faded compared with protected areas
  • Water no longer beading anywhere on the surface
  • Decals lifting or cracking alongside dull gelcoat

Questions

Questions about fiberglass restoration and refinishing

Can badly oxidized gelcoat be restored, or does it need paint?

If there is enough gelcoat thickness left, restoration works and costs far less than paint. Once the oxidation has eaten through to the laminate in places, paint is the only durable answer. We measure before recommending either.

How long does a gelcoat restoration last?

Two to four years in this climate if it is sealed and the coach is stored covered. Uncovered coastal storage cuts that closer to eighteen months.
