Subframe Repair in Fountain Valley, California
What this work involves
Fifth wheel subframe failure has a signature: the front cap develops a horizontal crack above the pin box, and the owner assumes it is a fiberglass problem. It is not. The fiberglass cracked because the steel under it bent.
How we approach it
- We diagnose the steel before quoting the fiberglass
- Reinforcement is added at the known failure points rather than replacing like for like
- Floor is re-supported rather than just re-skinned
What sends people here
- Horizontal crack across the front cap above the pin box
- Floor that feels soft near the front of the unit
- Landing gear that no longer sits square
- Slide room binding only when hitched
Questions
Questions about subframe repair
Why did my fifth wheel front cap crack?
Nine times out of ten the subframe under it deflected. Fiberglass does not spontaneously crack in a straight horizontal line. Repairing the cap without correcting the steel means the crack comes back.
Is subframe failure covered by insurance?
Only if it resulted from a covered event such as a collision. Progressive deflection from overloading is treated as wear and is not covered. We tell you which one you have before you file.
